Internationally-known playwright and actor Wallace Shawn and director André  Gregory were the special guests at Theatre for a New Audience’s recent annual Producers Circle Reception, hosted by Board Member Sally Brody and Mel Herzberg in their Brooklyn Heights home.

This season, in collaboration with The Public Theater, Theatre for a New Audience is producing Shawn’s The Designated Mourner  and the American premiere of his Grasses of a Thousands Colors .  Shawn will appear in and Gregory will direct both productions. Shawn is one of America’s most significant and under-recognized playwrights, and his 40-year theatrical collaboration with André Gregory is one of the most significant partnerships in American theatre.  They are perhaps most widely known for the films directed by Louis Malle, My Dinner with André and Vanya on 42nd Street.

At the event, Shawn and Gregory were interviewed by Founding Artistic Director Jeffrey Horowitz and related their unique vision for theatre. A lively discussion with the guests followed on how theatre can be informed by political and economic issues, and can impact the environment and the world we live in.

Theatre for a New Audience’s Producers Circle brings the Theatre’s leading donors into contact with the Theatre’s artists at exclusive receptions and the Theatre’s opening nights.  For more information about becoming a member of the Producers Circle, please contact James Lynes, Director of Development, at 212-229-2819 x13 or by email at [email protected].
