How does Shakespeare fit into a culturally responsive curriculum?

In this course co-taught by practitioners from Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) and the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), participants will engage in the active performance-based “rehearsal room” approaches to teaching Shakespeare utilized by both theater companies. These activities unlock close readings of rich texts and empower students to utilize critical thinking skills to make their own interpretive choices.

Participants will learn how to apply these practices to any rich text intended for performance, and how to incorporate these creative and reflective teaching strategies into their own classrooms to affirm student identities, increase student engagement, and encourage connections across cultures.
