Chair, the electrifying play by Edward Bond, directed by Robert Woodruff, played its final performance at The Duke on 42nd Street on December 28. The images, language, and story will live on, however, in those who experienced it personally. Following is a collection of reactions by some of our audience members.
√¢‚Ǩ≈ìI was completely undone by your extraordinary production…if theater rocks us to the core and changes us forever you have succeeded beyond any of our wildest dreams.√¢‚Ǩ¬ù √¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùAmy Arbus, Photographer
√¢‚Ǩ≈ìThe stage was all it could be – and the actions, several in each segment, the chair, the tearing of the paper, the drawings coming down, the hanging, like some of the strongest moments within a whole I remember seeing in quite some time.√¢‚Ǩ¬ù √¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùDebra Winger, Actor/Author
√¢‚Ǩ≈ìI wish there was more theater like this in NY. This type of work needs to be seen by young artists…theater like this needs to continue.√¢‚Ǩ¬ù √¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùTea Alagic, Director
“I was lucky enough to see Chair the other night; and it was truly extraordinary.” —Sarah Benson, Director, Blasted by Sarah Kane
√¢‚Ǩ≈ì…It was such a rare treat to see [Chair] done, and done so well. It√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s safe to say that no one else in the American theater would ever have produced this work. Theatre for a New Audience is a gift.√¢‚Ǩ¬ù √¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùJonathan Kalb, Author, Teacher, Theatre Critic
