Founded in 1979, Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) is an award-winning off-Broadway LORT- C theatre whose mission is to develop and vitalize the performance and study of Shakespeare and classic drama alongside other new work. Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) is seeking a Production Manager for an immediate opening.

Reporting to Chloe Knight, TFANA’s General Manager, and working closely with the General Manager, Artistic Director and other staff, the Production Manager is a full-time position and key member of TFANA’s production and building operations team.

The Production Manager oversees approved budgets and manages the realization of physical productions and planning for all of TFANA’s productions, co-productions, presentations, and tours, including but not limited to sets. costumes, lighting, sound, special effects and reconfigurations of the stage and audience seating at Polonsky Shakespeare Center’s mainstage and studio spaces.  The Production Manager is also responsible for the maintenance of TFANA’s theatrical equipment for its mainstage and studio space for TFANA’s productions and rentals.

Responsibilities include:

Start Date: Immediate

  • Under supervision of TFANA’s General Manager (with input from TFANA staff including the Technical Director, Associate Producer, Company Manager, and the Artistic Director), the Production Manager receives, analyzes, bids out, and manages the physical production designs, logistics and approved budgets for all TFANA productions, co-productions, presentations, Studio projects, rentals, and events.
  • Works closely with the Technical Director on the creation of construction drawings.
  • Manages and oversees load-in, strike, load-out, and run crew hired by TFANA.
  • Works with the General Manager on budget tracking and the planning of production expenditures.
  • Works with Facilities Manager on building usage/scheduling, security, and site protection.
  • Organizes and leads internal and external production-related meetings, calendars, deadlines, oversight and management of production budgets and all other physical production related logistics.

Qualifications and Traits:

  • 3+ years of experience working in theatre as a production manager, production supervisor, technical director or other related position.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and Vectorworks required.
  • Knowledge of hiring practices of NYC theatrical laborers working on a freelance basis.
  • Knowledge of NYC theatrical vendors a plus.
  • Knowledge of NYC fire and building codes a plus.
  • Must be available for evening and weekend hours.
  • Strong organizational, management, team building, collaboration, budgeting, and administrative skills. Ability to multitask efficiently.
  • An effective communicator with a sharp eye for detail and planning.
  • Computer and internet proficiency – specifically in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Track record of negotiating budgets and contracts with leading designers and directors with patience, sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Ability to understand and communicate thoughtfully and diplomatically the limits of a non-profit Off-Broadway theatre company within an environment of deadlines and financial limits. This must be accompanied by the ability to manage expectations of highly talented artists committed to realizing ambitious theatrical art with respect and sensitivity.

Compensation:

This is a Full-Time permanent position with a salary in the range of $75,000 – $85,000 plus benefits.  A detailed summary of the benefits package is available on request. This is an Exempt position according to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is available immediately.
