Theatre for a New Audience is proud to announce that our Associate Artistic Director, Arin Arbus, is the recipient of a 2008 Princess Grace Award.
The Princess Grace Foundation-USA annually awards emerging artists in theater, dance, and film with grants in the form of scholarships, apprenticeships, and fellowships. Arbus, who will receive the 2008 Princess Grace Directing Fellowship (Grace LeVine Theater Award), is a Drama League Directing Fellow and has directed for New York and regional theatres.
Arbus is also dedicated to making theatre with alternative communities. She currently works in association with Rehabilitation Through the Arts, with an all-male group of inmates at Woodbourne Correctional Facility, a medium security prison. Last summer, she directed a production of Of Mice and Men with the group. Currently, they are in rehearsal for a new play about the impact of incarceration on families.
Additionally, Arbus will direct Othello for Theatre for a New Audience’s 2008/2009 season, her directorial debut with our organization. As host of the honoree, Theatre for a New Audience will receive a General Operating Support grant from the Princess Grace Foundation, which helps support expenses for the organization.
The Foundation was founded in 1982 in honor of the late Princess Grace of Monaco. Past awards have helped fund career development for artists such as playwright Tony Kushner, director Anna D. Shapiro (August: Osage County) and “SpongeBob SquarePants” creator Stephen Hillenburg.
