Having two back-to-back, critically acclaimed, sold-out productions is a problem that every theatre would like to have. However, this situation creates a unique challenge for Theatre for a New Audience: consecutive hits (Hamlet and Othello) that the Theatre has produced in rented space, with little flexibility to extend.
In a recent article in The New York Times, Patrick Healy writes that this dilemma “underscores what is lacking for this 30-year-old theater company,” writes Patrick Healy. “A theater of its own.” While the Theatre is in conversation with commercial producers for a possible future transfer of one or both productions, the dilemma emphasizes the importance of our Campaign for a permanent home in the BAM Cultural District.
