The World Theatre Project, Theatre for a New Audience’s in-school program that introduces students grades 5-12 to Shakespeare, began this month with annual training for Teaching Artists.
This year’s program focuses on Measure for Measure, the Theatre’s upcoming Shakespeare production that will be directed by Arin Arbus, who staged last season’s award-winning Othello.
During the week-long training period, Teaching Artists utilized a curriculum guide written specifically for Measure for Measure by the Theatre’s Education staff. Scholar James Shapiro led a discussion on how to approach this complicated play with school age children, including its major themes of hypocrisy, power, trade, and mercy. Arbus attended a session focused on the world of the play in her upcoming production.
