LisaGay Hamilton, who plays the central character Suzanne Alexander in Ohio State Murders, is one of America’s finest artists. She has worked in theatre, television, and film for more than twenty years.  From 1997 to 2003 she played attorney Rebecca Washington on David E. Kelley’s ABC drama The Practice.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Ms. Hamilton is a graduate of New York University and The Juilliard School.√Ǭ† She began her career working on screen, but it was at the New York Shakespeare Festival where she broke onto the stage, playing Isabella opposite Kevin Kline in Measure for Measure; she was later featured in their productions of Two Gentlemen of Verona, and Henry IV Parts I & II.√Ǭ† She was an original cast member on Broadway in August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson and Gem of the Ocean, and for her performance in Athol Fugard’s Valley Song, she won an Obie Award, the Clarence Derwent Award, and a Drama Desk nomination.√Ǭ†
Ms. Hamilton has appeared in over two dozen films, including Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, Clint Eastwood’s True Crime, and Jonathan Demme√¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Beloved and The Truth About Charlie.
After writing with the Sundance screenwriter’s lab, Ms. Hamilton made her directorial debut with the HBO documentary Beah: A Black Woman Speaks, a biography of the late actress, poet, and playwright Beah Richards.√Ǭ† She was honored in 2000 by the 100 Black Women Foundation, a network for African-American women, for her dedication to the field.
