In 1986, Julie Taymor directed The Tempest off-Broadway at Theatre for a New Audience. It was her first Shakespeare production. Elliot Goldenthal composed the score.

This year, Julie re-imagined The Tempest for the screen starring Helen Mirren, Djimon Hounsou and Alfred Molina, with original music by Elliot Goldenthal.
